Troubleshooting
Barcodes that will not scan, stock that did not appear in Shopify, costs that look wrong, and what to do about each.

A barcode will not scan
Purser matches on the barcode stored against the variant in Shopify. If a scan finds nothing, the usual cause is that the barcode field on that variant is empty or holds a different code from the one printed on the box. Check the variant in Shopify first.
I received stock and Shopify did not update
Purser will not tell you a receipt succeeded when it did not. If some lines failed to write, it says which ones. Retrying is safe — Purser will not double-count lines that already went through. If it keeps failing, the cause is usually a permissions or location problem on the Shopify side; email us with the purchase order number and we will look.
The cost looks wrong
Two common causes. First, the opening cost: if you imported history with a blank or wrong cost column, every average calculated from it inherits that error. Check the item's opening cost. Second, expectation: Purser shows a weighted average, so it will not match the price on your most recent invoice, and it is not meant to. See 'How weighted-average cost works'.
The margin says nothing at all
Margin needs both a cost and a retail price. If either is missing, Purser shows the margin as unknown rather than guessing. An unknown margin displayed as 0% or 100% would be a lie, and this is a finance app.
My supplier appears twice
Almost always an import artefact — a trailing space or a different spelling in the CSV created a second record. Check your supplier list after any import.
Still stuck
Email us. Include your shop's myshopify.com address and the purchase order or bill number involved, and you will get a person, not a form.
