Terms of service

These terms govern your use of Purser, a Shopify app operated by Purser HQ. By installing Purser into your Shopify store, you agree to them. If you do not, do not install it — and if you already have, uninstall it and email us; we will not make that difficult.

What Purser is

Purser is a purchase-order, receiving and accounts-payable app that runs inside the Shopify admin. It is a tool for recording and organising your own commercial data. It is not an accountant, not a bookkeeper, and not a tax adviser, and nothing it displays is financial or tax advice.

Your account

Purser has no separate login: access is controlled by Shopify. Whoever has access to your Shopify admin has access to Purser. Managing your staff permissions in Shopify is your responsibility, not ours.

Plans, billing and cancellation

• The free plan allows five purchase orders per calendar month, and the allowance resets on the 1st. Every other feature is included.
• Pro is $37.99 per month and removes the purchase-order limit and adds emailing purchase orders to suppliers.
• All charges are made through Shopify and appear on your Shopify invoice. We do not process payments ourselves and never receive your card details.
• You can change or cancel your plan at any time from your Shopify admin. Cancellation takes effect according to Shopify's billing terms.
• If you cancel Pro, you drop to the free plan. Your data is not deleted, and it remains readable and exportable.

If we change our prices, existing subscribers will be told before the change takes effect, and any founding-member arrangement we have made with you in writing will be honoured.

Your data is yours

You own the data you put into Purser and the data Purser derives from it. We claim no ownership of it and no right to use it beyond running the app for you, as described in the privacy policy. You can export your payables ledger as CSV and your purchase orders as PDFs at any time, on any plan.

What you must not do

• Use Purser to break the law, or to store data you have no right to store.
• Attempt to breach, overload or reverse-engineer the service, or access another merchant's data.
• Resell or white-label Purser without a written agreement with us.

Accuracy, and the limits of what a tool can promise

Purser is built with considerable care about correctness, because it handles money. It reconciles what it writes, it reports partial failures rather than hiding them, and it does not silently guess at numbers it does not know.

It is still software, and it is still working from what you and Shopify tell it. Purser does not warrant that your inventory counts, cost figures or payables balances are correct, and it is not a substitute for your own bookkeeping and reconciliation. You remain responsible for your books, your tax filings and your payments to your suppliers.

Availability

We aim to keep Purser available and working, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted service. Shopify's platform, our hosting provider and our email provider can all have outages, and some of them are not ours to fix. We will not pretend an outage is your fault, and we will tell you what happened.

Liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Purser is provided as-is, and our total liability to you for any claim arising out of your use of it is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. If you are on the free plan, that amount is nothing, which is a blunt thing to write down but an honest one.

We do not exclude liability for anything that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Ending it

You can uninstall Purser at any time, from your Shopify admin, without asking us. Uninstalling ends these terms and instructs us to delete your data.

We may suspend or end your access if you materially breach these terms, or if we are legally required to. If we ever discontinue Purser entirely, we will give you notice and time to export your data — because we have watched what the other way around does to a merchant, and this whole app exists because of it.
